The research team’s previous commercialized technologies are in the field of cancer diagnostics.  Our research team has played key inventive and developmental roles in two major platform technologies, both of which have beentransferred to commercial partners. Both were developed initially with NIH SBIR funding. The first is the highly successful Artisan® instrument for special stains and immunohistochemistry, which was sold to Dako Corporationin 2002. Dako currently sells the Artisan® and associated disposables.

We also developed a new system of immunohistochemistry test controls, to foster accurate and reproducible measurement of cancer biomarkers in tumor biopsies. The technology provides, for the first time, a standardized reference for clinical laboratory testing of tumor markers in biopsy specimens. These controls will improve the accuracy of test results from biopsy specimens. We tested the Analyte Controls in national clinical trials in collaboration with College of American Pathologists (CAP), and published our findings in 2008.  This technology R&D project is complete and a commercial partner is bringing it to the marketplace.
